Kiran Kochhar, 69 – Recipient
Silver Spring, Maryland
Washington Hospital Center
Received from Patricia Harris
Kiran Kochhar, an engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2004. Several years later, his kidney function began to deteriorate. In October of 2008, he started dialysis three-days-a-week. “It’s like a second job”, he says. “Life is full of restrictions.” Mr. Kochhar’s wife, Dr. Medha Kochhar, is donating her kidney to the exchange so that he can receive a transplant. “It’s a big sacrifice for my wife. I feel that I’m blessed. I’m lucky to have such a caring and loving family and my doctors’ and friends’ support. It’s a new chapter in my life. Now we are liberated.”
