Group Recognized for Work to Help Sick Kids at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital

WHAT: Thirteenth Annual Georgetown Pediatrics Gala. In recognition of its dedication to children and families battling childhood cancer, this year’s Flame of Hope Award will be presented to the JUST TRYAN IT foundation. The Flame of Hope Award is given to an individual or organization who has significantly improved the lives of children and their families.

WHO: JUST TRYAN IT, founded by Carrie Norry, President, and other caring friends. Hosted by His Excellency Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United States

WHY: JUST TRYAN IT, founded in honor of Ryan Darby of Bethesda who has successfully battled leukemia, is a non-profit organization providing financial assistance to families fighting childhood cancers. Through an annual kids triathlon, JUST TRYAN IT raises money and awareness for patient families in treatment at Georgetown’s Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Unit. All funds go directly to the Family Assistance Fund which helps with emergency needs such as transportation to and from the hospital, housing costs, counseling and sibling support.

Proceeds from the Gala will help fund several critical programs, research, and services provided by the Department of Pediatrics at MedStar Georgetown.
