The Division of Audiology and Hearing Research of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital provides comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative services for both children and adults. Our patients can be both inpatient and outpatient.
Our research efforts focus on hearing impairment and associated disorders.
Our diagnostic services include:
- Newborn hearing screening (AABR and OAE)
- Behavioral measurement of hearing sensitivity
- ABR and ASSR testing with and without sedation
- Electrophysiologic measurement of the integrity of the auditory nerve pathways (ABR, MLR, ALR)
- Evaluation of Central Auditory Processing ability (APD)
- Determination of middle ear function with acoustic immittance
- Measurement of cochlear hair cell function with otoacoustic emissions (OAE)
- Evaluation of the vestibular system (VNG and VEMP)
- Electrophysiologic measurement to detect endolymphatic hydrops (ECoG)
- Tinnitus Assessment

- Fitting and dispensing of digital hearing aids
- Verification of programming using Real Ear Measurements

- Fitting of the Cochlear Baha
