iOS Users: Using the Directory with Apple's iBook Application

Requirements

iBook must be installed on your iOS device

Overview

Your iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) comes with the ability to view eBook files using the iBooks app. The instructions below explain how to copy the ePub file from this CD onto your iOS device.

Importing Into iTunes

To get started, open iTunes from your computer. Once iTunes has loaded, you must enable books to show up in the side-bar. Select Edit>Preferences and click the checkbox for books, then select Ok. Now select the books section in the side bar to bring up the books library. Locate the eBook file on the CD and click and drag into the books library in iTunes. When the book has finished importing it will appear in your iTunes library. Note: If this method does not work, please go to File> Add File to Library in iTunes, navigate to the eBook file on the CD and import the file.

Syncing to Your iOS Device.

Now that you have imported the book into iTunes you are able to sync it to your iOS device. To do so, connect your device to your computer and click on it in the left sidebar once it appears. Now navigate to the top of iTunes where you will see a list of tabs that reads 'Summary, Info, Apps...,' and finally '...Books.'

Click on the books tab and ensure that the eBook file is selected to sync as shown by the checked checkbox in the image below.

Now click the 'Sync' button in the bottom right-hand corner of iTunes to copy the directory to your device.

Viewing on Your Device

To properly view the eBook on your iOS device, you must download the iBooks application if you do not already have it on your iOS device. You can do this by visiting the App Store, selecting ‘Search’ and searching for iBooks. Select iBooks and select ‘Free’ and then ‘Install’. You will now be prompted for your Apple I.D. and password, enter your correct information and select ‘Ok’. iBooks will begin to download.

Once the sync has finished, disconnect your iOS device and ensure that the directory successfully transferred by opening the iBooks app. You should see the Physicians Reference Directory in the list of books.

If you have downloaded individual chapters of the PRD to your iPhone or iPad, the titles of each chapter are visible if you use the "Titles" view instead of the "Bookshelf" view.

To view in titles rather than bookshelf:

iPhone: Drag the bookshelf down until the search bar and icons become visible. Select the icon with 3 parallel horizontal lines.

iPad: Select the icon with 3 parallel horizontal lines in the top right hand corner of the screen.
